Storefront Hitchcock The Castro, April 28

by Denise Sullivan

Beloved singer-songwriter and building block of Alternative music, Robyn Hitchcock, set up shop in a Manhattan storefront and Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme captured the whole thing on film. The eccentric Brit parades his wares -- trademark rambling, surreal stories, fine guitar work and songcraft -- over the course of 90 minutes. Though you might be tempted to exclaim, "Cut to the chase," it would appear there's a point to the exercise: over time, we are the beneficiaries of Hitchcock's singular artistic vision and all-consuming passion for his work. Then again, it's only a concert film.... Hitchcock will be available for a Q&A session following this exclusive screening at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
