Off-Beat Beat
British rocker Robyn Hitchcock says his music, with its offbeat themes, is getting a chance because Popular music is now allowing experimentation.
"At least at the moment, people are doing their own kind of music, from Punk through Electronic Pop to whatever," Hitchcock said recently, on tour with his band, The Egyptians.
"I think the pity is that when a new style is decided on, it becomes totalitarian."
Hitchcock concedes that songs on his live LP, Gotta Let This Hen Out!, are not likely to make the Top 40 any time soon.
"My Wife and My Dead Wife", for instance, is about a man who feels uncomfortable with his second spouse because the spirit of his first still haunts the house.
