Robyn Hitchcock And The Egyptians Fegmania!

A cult legend in his own time, Robyn Hitchcock has had the dubious honor of being elevated to near-god status by much of the U.S. music intelligentsia. Expect a whole new Hitchcock buzz to blossom with the domestic release of Fegmania!, his fourth solo album since the breakup of The Soft Boys (which included Kimberley Rew of Katrina And The Waves). Though Robyn's music is rooted in Pop conventions you certainly can't call him conventional -- the fantastic, near perverse whimsey of his lyrics erases all possibility. Example: matched to the lush, MOR-ish melody of the ballad "Heaven" is the chorus "You've got arms/And you've got legs/And you've got heaven". A bit off-kilter but you can't argue with it. Traveling closer to the fringe are "The Man With The Lightbulb Head", "Egyptian Cream" and "My Wife And My Dead Wife".
