Robyn Hitchcock

by John Chandler

After writing a song about Sea-Tac on his Jewels For Sophia record as well as employing some Young Fresh Fellows as backing musicians, I think we can grant political asylum in the Pacific Northwest to Mr. Robyn Hitchcock -- he of Soft Boys and Egyptians fame. (He also did a stint as a hired gun guitar player for Yo La Tengo during a U.K. tour. Betcha didn't know that!). Hitchcock's latest record is called A Star For Bram and features gems like "Judas Sings (Jesus & Me)" and "I Saw Nick Drake". For the hard-core Hitchcock fan, Jonathan Demme's concert film Storefront Hitchcock is finally available on DVD through MGM Home Entertainment. Hitchcock is currently touring with fellow Pop poobah Grant-Lee Phillips. Latch on to the pair of them at the Aladdin Theater in Portland 6/23 and the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle 6/24 -- they're good for what ails you.
