Virtually every time the U.S. fires a missile from a drone and ends the lives of Muslims, American media outlets dutifully trumpet in headlines that the dead were \u201dmilitants\u201d \u2013 even though those media outlets literally do not have the slightest idea of who was actually killed. They simply cite always-unnamed \u201cofficials\u201d claiming that the dead were \u201cmilitants\u201d. It\u2019s the most obvious and inexcusable form of rank propaganda: media outlets continuously propagating a vital claim without having the slightest idea if it\u2019s true.<\/p>\n

This practice continues even though key Obama officials have been caught lying, a term used advisedly, about how many civilians they\u2019re killing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But Greenwald forgot the even more important issue: even those who are<\/em> militants have every right<\/em> to resist the U.S. military’s brutal and sadistic occupations of their countries. Not only ought this to be self-evident from a moral<\/em> standpoint; but it’s also considered a legal<\/em> right.<\/p>\n

It’s been enumerated many times; one example, from the UN General Assembly, in 1982:<\/p>\n

Reaffirms<\/a> the legitimacy of the struggle of peoples for independence, territorial integrity, national unity and liberation from colonial and foreign domination and foreign occupation by all available means, including armed struggle<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
