What Were They Waiting For?
We all know that the "coalition" has taken control of "the place formerly known as Saddam International Airport," and that, "The airport now has a new name -- Baghdad International Airport -- and it is a gateway to the future of Iraq."
But we can't help but wonder why the "coalition" had to actually occupy the airport before it could be renamed -- especially in light of its stated intention to declare victory "with or without" Saddam's surrender?
And why stop there? Why not rename every city and town in Iraq after place names in Texas? Then rename all Iraqis after members of the Bush Administration's cabinet. If not, how could we possibly have the audacity to say that we had "liberated" them?

What an idiotic line of thinking. People like you would just let the butchers of the world run it... silly silly man. -- Posted by: Travis Harward on April 6, 2003 05:29 PM
If by "butchers," the previous poster meant individuals like the working-class laborers who cut my meat, then by all means, YES, let the butchers run the world. It's got to be better than the corporate pawns and imperialistic, militaristic bozos that are currently running the US.
Of course, the meat industry is now run by giant companies so bent on reaping a profit that they endanger public health and worker safety by cutting corners, and their product can't be trusted any more. The US government will inspect your suitcase without you even being around to watch them, but won't inspect your meat or the conditions in meat-packing plants, despite real health and safety concerns, because your friendly neighborhood politicians (the so-called good guys in this war) have all been paid off by the corporations. Yeah, these are the guys I want running the world. -- Posted by: Jason Thornton on April 7, 2003 12:13 PM
what the hell is wrong with you!?! you are making absolutely NO SENSE!
'corporate pawns'? 'militaristic bozos'??
what is ruining this country is not 'whos being paid off' or 'whos looking which way'...it is the fact-twisting, (obviously) uneducated, paranoid masses like yourself that do thier best to blame every problem in this country on the 'politician' rather than your mother, your neighbor, your teacher, your aunts, the fucking owner of your local porn shop.
and as far as your idotic statement of 'pay offs' in the meat industry go, i am willing to bet that a small "mom and pop" butcher shop has FAR MORE health violations than a corporate business.
why you ask?
because corporate businesses are being watched under a magnifying glass by the 'people above' because those are the companies that have a much more widespread vendetta and, frankly, have much more money.
there arent any government officials being 'paid off to look the other way' because there is no reason for it. when a corporate business does not meet health standards as specified by the APHA, thier fine is much greater than that of a small shop because it is considered to be putting many more people at risk. obviously the government does not need to be 'paid off' for violations because when a violation is found, they get thier money anyways.
your writing as got to be the WORST attempt at journalism ive ever seen. -- Posted by: david williams on April 11, 2003 01:14 PM
couldn't agree with the previous poster more. this "Jason Thornton" character is a complete moron. US Department of Health and/or the FDA does do meat inspections all the time you bumbling idiot. People like you are such leeches on society. You bathe in the luxury of the services our government provides without ever giving it any credit. The next time you go to the store and buy something for which you have to pay by the pound, ask yourself, "How do I know that the store isn't messing with their scales and charging me more than I'm actually getting?" Answer: government inspections, designed to protect people like me, and unfortunately, you. As fas as Eddie Tew's inane writing goes, we're occupying the airport so we can use it for our own forces. Moron. Don't you realize how important pieces of real estate like airports are during wars? I swear, every time I think your writing can't get worse, it does. Please have a point next time. -- Posted by: Bill Whitlock on April 11, 2003 06:11 PM
